Hi.
Can someone please tell me how to mark parts of a sound with the keyboard?
I know how to record and add effects, but how can I mark parts of a sound?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Bryan
Hi.
The two magical keys are left and right brackets. Left bracket is the key after the letter P and right bracket the key next to the left bracket.
You can use them when the sound is playing so this makes it a very usefull commant. Also the standar commants work such as control+A for cellect all, shift+Home from the place you are to the begining, shift+end for the place your are to the end etc.
Hope it helps

Thanks. I'll try that. These also work in cool edit? I know they work in goldwave.
Yes they work in cool edit. I never used gold wave.
Also if you want to put cues in your file you can press F8 and move between them with control+left and right arrow if i remember right. In cool edit it was alt+control+home and end but in addobie audition which is basically the same thing with some new things they changed it to control+left and right arrow.
when using left and right bracket, do they each mean something different? left bracket from where you are to the beginning, and right bracket to the end or something?
Left bracket means start of sellection and right bracket means end. If you are editing an audio with speatch and there is a coff somewhere you will press the left bracket just before the coff starts and right bracket at the end. After that you can press delete to delete it and your recording will sound better.
When cutting something, you may hear pops and clicks at the cut point(s). This results from cutting somewhere other than at zero crossings. If it's a silent spot, you could crossfade; however, coolEdit has built-in commands that will move your selections to the nearest zero crossings. This is accomplished by pressing letters h through l. H=left end of the selection backward, j=left end forwards, k=right end backwards, and l=right end forwards.
Hi. I got my left bracket to work and I couldn't get my right bracket to work. I wonder if I changed something by mistake.
I like those effects that are on there.
Thanks.

When i was at college i think this happened where the brackets wouldn't work and they had to restor the programme or something because they didn't know why. also with mine i have got the problem that is not recording properly. It seams to jump from time to time. I don't think it is my soundcard or anything like that because if i use cdex to record it records just fine.
Hi. Now that I learned how to mark things, is there a way to play just what you marked? WHen I press play, it starts at the start marker and goes on past the finnish marker. I think I got marking learned pritty well.
Thanks
Bryan
If i mark something and press space it just plays the sellection. I don't know why yours doesn't do that. Strange.
Not sure if this will work but try pressing alt-p to start playing and then stop do your marking and then try pressing spacebar and it should play just the selection. I haven't done this in a while but sometime pressing the play command first puts thinkgs in the right perspective for the program.
Also, is it possible to edit your selection to one setting, such as delaying it, and leave your unmarked clip as normal? I tried that and it doesn't seem to like it very much.
Yes for me this is exactly what happens. Effects only apply to the sellection. Everything else stays as it was.
yep, I've got it figured out now. What a helpful board. :)
